Servant-ministers of the Church as established in Exodus 18:21-24, Acts 6:3-4 and 1 Peter 5:1. Deacons must possess the scriptural qualifications stated in I Timothy. 3:8-10, 12-13. Deacons shall be ordained to provide assistance to the pastor with spiritual leadership and service to the congregation of the Church. Their purpose is to relieve the pastor of the multitude of practical duties giving their primary attention toward caring for the congregation’s spiritual welfare (the benevolence work, visiting the sick, prison ministry). Deacons are to be an example of commitment, unity, and harmony in their service. They shall guard the unity of spirit within the Church and recommend establishment of policies concerning the Church and its ministries, subject to the vote of the Church. All Deacons shall actively support, with time and finances, the work of the Lord through the various ministries of the Church.
